Trinity Lutheran Church began when a group of dedicated Christians felt called to consider forming an Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brooks. From that time until the present, God has been our guide and has showered us with his blessings. For this we are truly grateful and pray for his continued goodness to us.

In 1964 inquiries were made regarding the establishment of a Mission Congregation at Brooks. S.T. Jacobsen, President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada, and Pastor Curtis Satre of Canadian Missions of the E.L.C.C. met with the group, and encouraged them to move forward with their plans. Assistance would be given by E.L.C.C Canadian Missions.

Pastor John Lokken was called, and this call was accepted. When the Lokken family arrived in July, 1965, they moved into a new parsonage which had been built on property purchased along Cassils Road. A building, originally used by the R.CA.F. in Claresholm, was purchased (to be moved) for use as a church building.

The first service was held on August 8, 1965 using the Christian Reformed Church (downtown), with 89 in attendance. The remainder of 1965 was busy and exciting. Trinity Lutheran Church was officially organized on November 6 and 7, with 85 baptized and 50 confirmed members. A Lutheran Church Women's group and Luther League were also organized.

Following the arrival of our church building, and completion of the basement we were able to worship there on December 19. After many improvements and renovations, the first service was held in the sanctuary on Easter Sunday, April 10, 1966. The dedication of our completed church took place on June 5.

In the fall of 1971 Pastor Lokken received and accepted a call to Outlook Saskatchewan. Pastor Dan Berg of Naicam Saskatchewan, was called and the Bergs came to us in February of 1972.

The congregation continued to grow in numbers and soon expansion became an idea and then a reality. Construction began in May 1977 on an octagontal shaped addition to the original church. Evidence of willing hands and hearts ready to serve God could be seen in the many people who volunteered hours and hours of time to assist with the construction, meals, painting etc.

On November 20, 1977 the new sanctuary was dedicated "to the Glory and Honour of Almighty God, and the Service of His Holy Church." The spacious addition has provided space for the many people who come to worship God, with the doors open to welcome all new-comers.

Early in 1980 we experienced once more the heart-ache of parting with a beloved Pastor and his family. Pastor Dan Berg had received a call from Frontier, Saskatchewan, which he accepted.

Pastor Ken Grambo of Lake Alrna, Saskatchewan was called and he and his family arrived in may of 1980, complete with guitar, records and tapes. The continuation of his Music Ministry has been an important aspect of Trinity Lutheran's out reach into the community (far and near). His messages in song have touched many hearts and led them to a closer relationship with the Saviour.

Because of Trinity's continual growth, and the expanded work load for the Pastor, the congregation decided to take part in the Intern Program of the Church Seminary in Saskatoon. In 1983 Pastor Tim Hegadus was with us, the next year Pastor Chuck Gorectke, in 1985 Pastor George Hind, and in 1991 Pastor Breck McHan. It was our privilege to have these fine men in our midst.

It became evident that there was a real need for a second Pastor to be hired on a permanent basis. Pastor Rick Bergh and his family came to us from McLaughlin, Alberta in April, 1988. and he and Pastor Grambo shared the ministry of Trinity. In 1990 Pastor Bergh accepted a Call to Westlock, AB.

Pastor Bob Randoy of Calgary, AB served as Interim pastor from September to December 1991. In January of 1993, Pastor Ken Grambo accepted a Call to serve the parishes of Edberg/New Norway, AB and to become the first Evangelism Coordinator for the Synod of Alberta and the Territories, serving in this capacity on a 1/4 time basis. From March until August Pastor Jakob Pillibeit of Medicine Hat, AB served as Interim Pastor.

Pastor Raymond Ursin from Oakland, Maryland, USA accepted our Letter of Call and served this congregation from August 15, 1993, officially resigning in November 1994. Pastor Dick Hanson of Claresholm, AB came to us as interim Pastor in January 1995. In June 1996 Pastor Hanson accepted a Call to Grace Lutheran in Medicine Hat.

Pastor John Theiss of Ayton, ON accepted our Letter of Call in October of 1996 and he is still serving Trinity.

As the needs of Trinity grew a decision was made to hire a Parish Worker that would complement the ministry happening at Trinity. In March of 1997 Maggie Theiss was hired as Parish Worker. This position continued until January of 2007 when the position of Parish Worker was revisited and due to focusing on the particular needs of pre-teens, teens and young adults a position of Youth and Family Minister was formed. This position which would be under the guidance and direct day to day supervision of the Pastor and would promote faith formation as a life-long, intergenerational process, where all people of Christ grow as disciples and pass on faith to others. Maggie Theiss accepted this new responsibility.

February of 2003 saw the beginning of an addition/renovation project to our church. The office was temporarily moved into another office space with worship services being held at Griffin School Auditorium and Sunday School classes being held in various locations in Brooks. The addition of a Fellowship Hall, a large Narthex (foyer), a user-friendly efficient kitchen, a Chapel/meeting room, new offices, a well organized, well stocked Library and more classrooms downstairs was completed in 2005. By God's grace we were able to "Defeat the Debt" within a 5 year period.

In September of 2011, Trinity began the process of reviewing its relationship with the ELCIC. As a result of that review a decision was made in December of 2012 to affiliate with Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ.

In February 2019 the congregation chose to extend a contract call to Maggie Theiss to become Senior Pastor and Pastor John's call was amended to Assistant Pastor 3/4 time. After 24 years of faithful service to Trinity and the broader community Pastor John retired on October 31st, 2020. We are so thankful for PJ's pastoral care and faithfulness to God's Word and the sharing of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 

July of 2020 Erin Haag was hired as our Summer Youth Intern. Erin continued to serve as our Summer Intern over the summer months of 2020-2023. 

In February of 2022 Trinity extended a call to Pastor John Theiss to serve as Pastor Emeritus. 

Our church is a busy place every day of the week with many opportunities for young and old to worship, study, sing, work and enjoy friendships over the coffee cups.

We remember with love and gratitude our fellow members who have now been laid to rest. They gave so much of themselves as they worshipped and worked beside us in serving their Lord here at Trinity.
